At the outbreak of World War Two, Poland possessed many artillery weapons that had been developed many years before. They would be called upon to break apart the encroaching German formations and attempt to slow the aggressors. One of these weapons was the 100mm wz.1914 Skoda, produced by the Czech company and sold to Greece, Hungary and Poland, amongst others - it had been one of the most popular European used howitzers of the inter-war period.
Germany captured many examples of these artillery pieces when they invaded. They were, however quickly deemed obsolete for front line service, so were incorporated into defence lines and fortifications after 1942.
