Five reasons YOU should be playing Infinity…

If you’ve been wargaming for any period of time, you’ve probably heard of Infinity, the sci-fi, skirmish game from Corvus Belli of Spain.

Now in its fourth edition, Infinity is a unique, and exciting game. So, why should you be playing Infinity? Here’s our top five reasons!

You’re impatient…

Do you ever find yourself sitting, daydreaming, and waiting for your turn whilst your enemy does horrible things to your army? Do you wish it was always your turn?

Welcome to Infinity.

The game uses an order mechanic where the player who’s turn it is (called the active player), spends their orders to let their units do things. You know, moving, shooting, blowing stuff up. BUT, the other player, called the reactive player, doesn’t just sit there. Every time the active player spends an order on a unit, if one or more of the reactive players can see or are within 8” of that unit they can react.

This process called an Automatic Reaction Order or ARO, will see units trading fire across the board, smacking each other in the head in close combat or rolling out of the way if things get to hot.

(If this sounds a little X-Com to you, you wouldn’t be the first!)

This not only means you’re always in the game, it also will create some epic, cinematic moments.

Pretty things make you happy

The Infinity miniatures have a unique, manga-esq, cyberpunk aesthetic. Most cast in metal*, the details are crisp on the miniatures are full of movement and character.

The range covers ten core factions, each with its own individual look and feel. Stretching from giant robotic scorpions:

To cute little robot pandas:

If you’re looking for a miniature range with its own feel and gorgeous minis which will stretch your painting skills, then Infinity has you covered!

Size matters to you… and that size is small

Infinity is a skirmish level game, in practice that means a standard Infinity army will be around eleven miniatures. Large ones will have maybe seventeen.

That’s it.

Not only does that mean you can spend more time painting each miniature, but it’s easier to get into the game. With a starter box you’re 60% of the way to a full army and most of the faction starter boxes include very good core units. As in you’ll still be using them when you know the rules fully!

Of course, if you want to get involved with a friend, you can pick up two player starter sets which include dice, terrain and two set of miniatures for different factions. LINK

Competition is fun!

Every year there’s a new season for Infinity. As part of that, Corvus Belli releases a new Infinity Tournament System’s (ITS) rules set. This provides around twenty different missions for you to use, free of charge in your games.

This then forms the basis of the global, Infinity league run and monitored by Corvus Belli themselves. Using ELO ranking, the global leader board will let you see how you’re doing against every other Infinity tournament player on the planet!

Every year there’s also a new tournament pack which includes exclusive miniatures, accessories, and a unique code for submitting your tournament result to the official global ranking. Every new season gets new tournament packs, there’s always something cool to win.

So, if you’re into competitive play, the ITS set will not only keep things fresh and interesting, but let you play and be ranked anywhere you play in the world. Get your passport out, pack up your dice and take your games on the road!

You like variety

Infinity has been around for a while, as we mentioned, we’re now in the fourth edition. That means Corvus Belli have had a lot of time to come up with great factions… and they’ve not been wasting their time!

There are ten, core factions in Infinity. These cover everything from humans to aliens, police forces to mercenaries. If you want it, it’s in here! But that’s not all… each faction is split into sub factions, called sectorial armies, which are focused on a specific style of play.

When you add the sectorial armies into the main faction, it works out that there are forty-one different, distinct armies. 41. Forty. One.

No matter what style of army or play you’re in to, there’s any army in the Infinity range that you’ll love.

BONUS REASON: free stuff!

What’s better than a new game? A new game which gives you free stuff!

Corvus Belli not only has the ITS rules free online, but they also have the full, Infinity rules available for free on their website. This means you can download, read the rules, and see what you think within spending a bean.

You’ll also find an up-to-date army builder, official, from Corvus Belli available on their website AND to download on iOS or Android devices.

If Infinity sounds like your next favourite game, then keep an out for more Infinity based blogs coming soon! Or, if you can’t wait, head on over to our Infinity pages to check out these lovely miniatures here.
